The Indian government, in collaboration with the USA, established two support centers in Mumbai and Hyderabad in 1968 to assist individuals with disabilities. Originally focused on vocational rehabilitation, these centers were later renamed as National Career Service Centers for Differently Abled. Due to their success, additional centers were opened across the country, resulting in a total of 24 centers in cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and others.

One of these centers, located in Vadodara, specifically caters to disabled women. These centers operate under the guidance of the Directorate General of Employment (DGE) and serve a crucial role in assessing the capabilities of individuals with disabilities, helping them plan their careers, and preparing them for suitable employment opportunities.

The National Career Service Centers for Differently Abled offer vocational training programs that are tailored to the specific needs of individuals with disabilities. These programs are non-formal in nature and aim to equip participants with the necessary skills to secure gainful employment.

Moreover, the centers actively assist individuals in finding suitable job opportunities that align with their abilities. They provide a range of services to different groups of people with disabilities, ensuring that their unique needs are met. Additionally, the centers organize various events, including camps and job fairs, to raise awareness about the services available and facilitate employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

For individuals who are unable to undergo formal training due to severe disabilities or limited education, the centers offer non-formal vocational training. During this training period, participants receive a stipend of Rs 2500 per month to support their livelihoods.
