Editorial Policy: How We Research, Write and Fact-Check

Last updated: November 2, 2026

FinInfoBlog publishes free, plain-English guides to help Americans make better decisions about banking, credit, loans, mortgages, investing, insurance and everyday money. Because these topics affect people’s finances, we hold our content to a strict standard. This page explains how we work.

Who writes our content

Our guides are written and reviewed under the direction of Chanchala, FinInfoBlog’s founder and lead writer. She holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics (Honors) and has 9 years of experience in banking and lending. Our editorial team includes banking professionals with hands-on experience in lending, deposits and credit appraisal.

How we research

  • Primary sources first. Rules, limits and official data come from sources such as the Federal Reserve, FDIC, NCUA, CFPB, IRS, Social Security Administration, HUD, VA, USDA and StudentAid.gov.
  • Current rate data. Interest rates and product terms are checked against public rate tables and lender disclosures, and we show the date we checked them.
  • No invented facts. We don’t make up statistics, quotes or product terms. If we can’t verify something, we leave it out.

How we write

  • We answer the reader’s main question early and explain the trade-offs, not just the benefits.
  • We show our math. Examples are calculated and double-checked, and we state our assumptions.
  • We point out risks, costs and common mistakes, and we avoid hype or guarantees.
  • Our content is educational and general. It isn’t personalized financial, tax, investment or legal advice.

Fact-checking and review

Before a guide is published or updated, numbers, dates, limits and links are checked against the sources listed in the article. Each article ends with a note naming its main sources and the date the data was checked.

Keeping content up to date

Rates, contribution limits and rules change often. We review our most-read guides regularly and whenever the Federal Reserve, IRS or other agencies announce changes. Updated articles show a new “Updated” date.

Independence from advertising

FinInfoBlog is supported by advertising. Advertisers do not decide what we write, which products we mention or how we rate them, and ads are labeled as advertisements. Read our Advertising Disclosure for details.
