What is APY?

APY (annual percentage yield) shows how much interest you earn in a year, including the effect of compounding. Two accounts with the same interest rate can have different APYs if they compound at different frequencies, so APY is the fairer number to compare.

Where to keep your savings

High-yield savings accounts at online banks and credit unions often pay much more than a traditional bank savings account. Deposits at FDIC-insured banks and NCUA-insured credit unions are protected up to the legal limit. Rates are variable and can change at any time.
